The year is 1 month old and we've already seen tumultuous events, a ceasefire in Gaza (let's hope it holds), fires in LA, Trump's inauguration, Musk in the White House, plane crashes, a 1-hour TikTok ban in the US and a mass social media migration to Rednote. (Which, by the way, was a fun development in the days leading up to the US ban, as many memes emerged that were highly entertaining).
I won't even go into current German politics, because it's extremely depressing.
And seeing what's going on with Meta, the big question is: are we all going to leave their channels and go back to Reddit and Tumblr? Or is Bluesky the new thing?
Questions about questions, and before we get lost in the abyss of dystopian thoughts about our world: Let's see what the art world is up to, because doesn't art save our lives? The scene is gearing up and I can't wait to see what exhibitions are coming up, especially in these times.
On another note, I have decided to make the newsletter more frequent as I needed a break between last year and the coming of 2025. Let me know what you are interested in? Exhibitions, gallery recommendations, articles or podcasts, exhibition reviews? I am curious to hear your opinion.
So these are the first bits and pieces, but there will be more soon.
Exhibitions
Neda Aydin - In Plain Sight at pied-à-terre
Where: Mommsenstr. 4
Until February 8
“In Plain Sight”, the first solo exhibition by Neda Aydin, showcases sculptures and wall-based works that engage with deviations from norms, disruptions, and the overlooked. Aydin’s artistic practice examines the forces and structures that shape, challenge, and define individuals and societies. Her work highlights the pressure to conform and creates spaces where resistance and irregularities become visible.
Ayşe Erkmen - Emre & Dario at Grotto
Where: Bartningallee 5
Until March 15

A talk between Ayşe Erkmen and Yağmur Ruzgar will be held on Wednesday, 5 March 18:00 at Hansabibliothek in Turkish (with German translation).
A project by Cory Arcangel - Let’s Play Majerus G3 at Michel Majerus Estate
Where: Knaackstr. 4
Until March 15
Let’s Play Majerus G3, a project featuring a previously unexplored aspect of the artist’s archive: his computer. An initiative led by artist Cory Arcangel, Let’s Play Majerus G3 takes as its point of departure the laptop that Majerus used in his late career, now reactivated following a restoration undertaken in cooperation with digital-art organization Rhizome.
On YouTube, Arcangel — in his debut as a “YouTuber” — posts “Let’s Play” videos that feature him as he navigates Majerus’ computer as part of this project. These videos are also presented on the Michel Majerus Estate’s website and by Rhizome as part of their series of presentations on digital-art archival, “ArtBase Anthologies.”

What I’m seeing next…
Sammlung Hoffmann
Although I have been living in Berlin for 14 years, there are still some places I visit for the first time, and I am looking forward to visiting the Hoffmann private collection this Saturday. It is housed in a former sewing machine factory in the Sophie-Gips-Höfe. On the 3rd and 4th floors of the old brick building, the extensive collection of art and designer furniture, as well as the Hoffmanns' spacious residential loft, occupy 1,500 square metres. Inspired by their visits to the documenta and in close contact with the Cologne art scene, Erika Hoffmann-Koenige and Rolf Hoffmann have been collecting according to their personal taste since the 1960s.
The current installation, “Self portrait as a young woman,” includes works by Bill Beckley, Marcel Broodthaers, Isa Genzken, Felix Gonzalez-Torres, Roni Horn, François Morellet, Frank Stella.
Erika Hoffmann lives in her collection and gives Berlin visitors a tour of her living room on Saturdays. You can book a tour on the website.

Gazeta do Mar is a non-profit magazine founded by the wonderful artist and close friend Conny Maier. It is produced as a newspaper, printed in black and white, with the intention of being published at least once a year. The aim of Gazeta do Mar is to serve as a vessel for a journey that celebrates the cohesion and diversity of its participants and readers, as each issue Conny invites different artists, writers and creators to make a special contribution.
Proceeds will be used for good causes and to support local communities working to save the oceans.
The next issue is due to be published in March and surprise, surprise, I have been invited to contribute with a very honest article about myself. I will inform you about the exact publishing date.

This is a recommendation if you are travelling to Athens to visit the Okay Initiative Space in Kypseli, the multicultural area north of the city centre. Founded in the spring of 2022 by Stavros Kapetanios, the space's concept is to showcase emerging artists and, above all, to support the local scene and exchange with artists from other European cities.
In the latest newsletter I really loved the motto - “Okay wishes you a free 2025 and announces this year’s topic: Eternal children don’t like the present and they will do something about it!”
Check out the Instagram account to keep up to date with upcoming projects and exhibitions.
